Pizza Hut/Book It Program
You may have noticed that we have increased the nightly reading goal to 30 minutes. That is because 5th graders on average should be reading approximately 600 minutes a month or 150 minutes a week. To encourage students to meet their monthly reading goal, we have teamed up with Pizza Hut to participate in their Book It program. Every month your child meets their goal they will receive a free 1-topping personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut! The homeroom with the highest total in April will win a Pizza Party!! Students can save some of their reading time for weekends, we are just encouraging them to read a minimum of 150 minutes per week.

They then watched Mrs. Houser model the strategies during a guided practice activity. Writing- We will be beginning a Grammar Unit focusing on Subject, Predicate, Types of Sentences, Fragments, and Parts of Speech. All of these things will help our students become better writers. We will also be working on answering extended response questions pertaining to our reading from this month's Storyworks Magazine. We will continue practicing our Friendly Letter writing every Friday by writing to a family member each week in our journals telling them about the week at school.
